with a why

I know a girl with diamonds in her eyes
She’s got a smile that makes all the boys die
Guards her heart so they don’t make her cry
And she spells her name with a why

A question on her tongue and a song on her lips
Only problem is you keep watching her hips
And in the night you keep passing like ships
Missed connection, misdirection, confused mess
Wonder how she keeps up with all the stress
It’s so hard to never settle for less
When you reach for the stars you might get burned
And to stone your heart might have turned
But know that truth is always here or there
Always have a friend with an ear and a tear
Know that hearts stay strong far and near
Invisible connection through the years

Distance grows and people change
Although they stay the same its always strange
We live and love and we grow strong
Till that girl you knew one day is gone
Replaced by the woman in this song
No more childlike nights under city lights
Getting drunk with boys wearing tights
We learn to sin because we love to grin
Sipping on gin and juice, young and loose
Learning to smoke, godlike in the first toke
And we always used to go for broke

So this one goes out to the girl with all the questions
Dedicated to growing up in new directions
