the kick it spirit

I saw my man in a dream the other night
And when he smiled I knew I’d be alright
Although he may have gone to a world apart
He will live forever in my heart

Kick it? With a shrug and smile
That’s the way we used to while
Whylin out on city streets or classrooms
Time so fly is always gone too soon
But memories will always last
Moments so sweet can be a bitter pill
Seductive pain of living in the past
But I’ve eaten these sorrows and had my fill
Gorged on sadness till I felt ill
Time to throw back the curtains
Rise from the sickbed and let the light in
Let the kick it spirit live on in you
Do plug things, to your friends be true
Live with a smile dancing on your lips
And never let the mat hit your hips
Wrestle with life and get the pin
Never settle for less than the win
And answer every question with a grin

Because I saw my man in a dream the other night
And when he smiled I knew it’d be all right
Although it still hurts to know that it’s true
Eric my brother this one is for you

A Shadow Play in the Cave

Fire dances ballet in the window
Can’t see a source only the graceful light
Tongues flicker like my insubstantial pain
The raking fingers of this false delight

Shadows dance on walls in this ancient cave
Playing roles to entertain, wrapped in chains
We dance our way into an early grave
Till we rise from the ground, hungry for brains

Zombie fate unless we shred the shadows
Break the fetters and start to climb towards
An indistinct mirage, watch as it grows
Seize the camera and speak your own words

Unquestioning acceptance is the trap
Key knowledge hidden in the form of rap

Mirror, Mirror

Fire glimpsed in eyes reflection
Burning desire for perfection
Want the best so disdain the rest
No rest chasing down my stress
Elusive evasive it slips away
Crimes for which I still pay
Don’t know why I am this way
Simple things refuse to stay
Complexity creeps into my head
Vortex of worries wants me dead
But I’m going to fight instead

make it real

Feeling loose as a goose as I pull out the juice
Throw some gin in the mix and lets begin
Pay the wages of sin to learn how to win
Sip on these heady draughts of what they call my thoughts
Now put the glass down and pick up the light
Realize that your life can start here tonight
Use these words to release your heart
Allow these seeds to flower, levees to part
Break the mold of escapism
use your time to heal the schism
between who you are and who you want to be
end your misery and embrace the mystery
of the unparalleled beauty that you see
free yourself to love it all
allow yourself to have a ball
be yourself stand straight and tall
all you need is all you have
what you want is what you are
if you could only see as I do
you’d understand the beauty I find in you

SNOW DAY

Snow day on a Wednesday?
It’s the first one in years
Perfect snowflakes fall like tears
Sounds so good you can’t believe your ears
Homework gone, responsibility forgotten
Pure snow covers all that is rotten
So shed your cares and shuck your jive
Drop what your doing and step outside
Play in the snow and feel alive
Have a snowball fight in the middle of the street
Sprint back and forth on frozen feet
Wish this night was stuck on repeat
The battle on state was fucking ill
Think I hit some guy in his grill
With a snowball thought, I ain’t grimy
Got aim and reflexes like a cat, just try me
The secret is, its all in the timing
Wild west duel dontcha know
Instead of sand there’s a line in the snow
Shit’s fucked up like a line of blow
Cross that shit and you got to go
O.K. Corral in a Winter Wonderland
Madison Narnia, written by Ayn Rand
Except in this one the heroes mega-man
Big blue dude rules this snow-bound city
Get up in the battle deep and gritty
Throw him in a snow sarcophagus, got no pity
till he breaks free like a mummy rising
abominable blue snow ghoul so surprising
no one knows what to make of this guy
all they know is that he’s super fly
flew away from the battle and hit the hill
slippery and steep we took many a spill
but its worth it to get back to the top
even if we slid right back down repeat nonstop
lunch tray sleds hit escape velocity off the jump
everlasting hang time till you land with a thump
these times are the good times, snow day victory
deep and heavy snow covers all like mystery
beautiful night illuminated by reflected light
and in the snow it all seems so simple and right
snow day is a good day, these blues get cured
happiness found inside classic adventure
the kinda story I’ll still tell through dentures
